Being Mindful!

June 16, 2025 by Sara Schuhmann

How do we slow down our thinking and take time for ourselves?

I’m sure you have heard “be mindful.” That sounds wonderful, but how can we put this into practice?

My thoughts about being mindful in our day-to-day lives is to be in the present moment. Try to stop thinking about future problems or tasks and focus on where you are, who you are with, and what is occurring right now. The other key to being more mindful is being intentional with what you are doing, thinking, and saying verses noticing things later as more of a reflection.

Some examples of being mindful:

Sitting outside and listening to one’s surroundings- (slowing down) what do I see, hear, smell, taste, and what am I touching. Get in touch with your senses!

Being present with others- put the phone down or turn off the tv (intentionally) and be present with those around you.

Taking 5 deep breaths and feel the air go into your lungs and knowing this breath is fulling your body.

These are just a few ideas that come to mind, but there are so many other ways you can be more mindful. Being mindful is more of a mindset! Slow down and take in what is happening in the present moment!
