Carol Ann Hamilton Isbell  LMFT, LCSW [she/her]

Co Founder of Northstar Counseling Center, Carol Ann is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Kentucky. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Kentucky and went on to obtain a Master of Science in Social Work with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville.

In addition to providing therapeutic services, Carol Ann is also passionate about supporting the growth, expansion, and education of Marriage and Family Therapists and is an AAMFT Approved Clinical Supervisor and former adjunct professor at the University of Louisville with the Kent School of Social Work’s Master’s program in Couple and Family Therapy.

Her approach to treatment as well as supervision is collaborative and strengths-based. She diligently attempts to create a safe environment for her clients in which the therapeutic alliance is valued and maintained throughout treatment.

Carol Ann has training and experience working with diverse client populations with a primary focus on providing treatment to children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families. She has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples (EFT) and additionally, is able to conduct relationship assessments using Gottman Couples Therapy and the Prepare/Enrich program. Carol Ann is also a Certified EMDR Therapist and able to utilize this intervention in her work with clients.

She assists clients as they face a variety of treatment issues including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Infertility
  • Grief and Loss
  • Low Self-esteem/Impaired Self-identity
  • Interpersonal relationship difficulties
  • Divorce/Separation
  • Parenting Challenges
  • Perfectionism
  • Depression
  • Childhood emotional/behavioral problems

While drawing upon a number of evidenced-based techniques and interventions, Carol Ann mindfully selects treatment modalities that best meet the needs identified by her clients. Within the context of a relationship-based approach to services, she strives to offer her clients feelings of unconditional acceptance and warmth, as together they address the concerns which brought the client or family system to seek treatment.

Carol Ann works with clients with and without insurance coverage. She also accepts private pay and she will operate from a sliding fee scale when necessary.
